Boy oh boy. Been here many many times, and there is not one time I got thru all the exhibits in one visit. This zoo is extremely big, and expect alot of walking, unless you plan to wait on line for the shuttles.

If you're one of those who loves to save, must...get...the....membership! Includes parking and pays for the whole family, oh and did I mention you can also use it in all the other zoos and the aquarium in NYC?

Tons of picnic areas so don't be shy to bring a whole table of food. Lots of events, shows, and exhibits so pack extra snacks too. Don't forget to bring the kiddos on the Bug Carousel to complete the playdate!

DINOSAUR SAFARI!

Took my two kids with the dinasour safari and OMG! the sounds, the people, the enviroment ! Amazing! As the dino crawls, so did my two kids! Very friendly enviroment. There's no way you will see all the zoo in one day. Even if you speed walk and just pass by the animals, this place is huge!

What a fantastic gem in this crazy city?  I cant believe Ive never made it up here to visit this great place.  A shame I havent before but I am so blessed to have found it.

Went on an unseasonably warm day in October and what a treat the weather was.  We entered of the 5 train, which takes you pretty close, about a 3 block walk to the entrance of the park.

The Zoo is massive. Get there as early as you can if you want to see it all. Actually, Im pretty sure you have to pick and choose what you might want to see and come back again later, thats what I intend.

Worth a full day adventure up to the Bronx.

The Bronx Zoo was first opened on November 8, 1899. Currently the zoo is home to 6000 animals and about 250 species. Also, the zoo is 265 acres in total. The zoo is a part of a system that holds 4 zoos and 1 aquarium. It is known as one of the largest metropolitan zoos in the entire world. This structure is a landmark because people come from different places to see it and have that happy, friendly tone that the place gives off.

The zoo's address is 2300 Southern Boulevard Bronx, New York 10460. One way to get to the zoo is by bus. Some buses that travel to the zoos entrances are the Bx9, Bx12, Bx19, Bx21, Bx22, Bx36, Bx39 and the Q44. Lastly, the 2 and 5 trains lead to stops nearby the zoos entrances.

Originally before the zoo was created, Fordham university owned the land. Fordham sold the land to The city for a cheap $1000 on the one condition that it be used as a park and garden. Which became the Bronx Zoo and the New York Botanical Garden. The land was first named the Bronx Zoological park and the Bronx Zoological Gardens, but was later on changed to the names that we know currently. Lastly, the original buildings were designed by Heins & LaFarge.

There are many nearby attractions to the Bronx Zoo. For example, the New York Botanical Gardens. In addition, there is the Bronx Park itself that the zoo lies in. Also, there is Wave Hill. Lastly, there is Yankee Stadium, to the Yankees also known as the Bronx Bombers. In all, there are many attractions nearby the Bronx Zoo that are extremely worthwhile.
